PAINTED PAST TOURS

Painted Past

CASPER'S HISTORY COMES TO LIFE through Painted Past Enterprise's living history tours. The 1890's, roaring 1920's, and the Fort Caspar tours are revisited on candlelight walking tours of downtown Casper. Costume-clad actors entertain all ages as they depict real people who walked the streets and shot up the town of Casper. Step back in time to learn, laugh and experience Casper's history in truly unique fashion.

Painted Past Enterprises is a non-profit organization doing historical candlelight walking tours in Casper's downtown area. We have 3 separate tours presented at your convenience in the evenings, lasting about one hour, at a group rate of $20 per person, or $25 per single.

Weather permitting, our tours present professional actors in authentic costumes portraying real citizens of Casper's past. For each tour, 6 characters describe their involvement in the history of Casper in the 1890's and the 1920's.

In the 1890's Casper was a brand new wild town. Lou Polk tells you how her boyfriend "Black Dogue" Lee disfigured her face, while her bartender committed the first town murder. The well-know physician Dr. Benson burned himself up in the town jail, while the first vigilante hanging took place and why. You will hear of Casper's first love triangle, along with Kid Curry shooting up the town.

In the 1920's Casper's Sand Bar area was nasty. Among those nasties were prostitutes, drug dealers, bootleggers and gamblers. Violence was evident by the record number of killings on one block where City Hall now stands. You will be deputized and follow a money trail from one crooked character to another, pulling out all the stops in between.

The Fort Caspar tour is filled with tales of the trail. Not only do you get a tour of the Fort, but in addition, you get six stories from professional actors in authentic costume retelling stories of the Oregon, California and Mormon trails taken straight from pioneer journals.

In addition, we have Casper the Friendly Ghost's Tour which takes you through the alleys of Downtown Casper with a certified para-normal investigator and a guide. This tour introduces you to the buildings that have claimed to be haunted and the investigator has instrumentation for your use in detecting para-normal activity. This tour is about 1½ hours, and is available for $25 per person, group rate.

No matter which tour you choose, you will never forget the tales of Casper Wyoming in its early days. TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE. A PEEK AT CASPER'S PAST. If you would like more information, please visit www.paintedpast.org or call 307-267-7243.
