September is Hunger Action Month and the Wyoming Food Bank is kicking off the month with a free food distribution to bring light and action to fighting Hunger.
This Friday, from 4-6 pm in front of the East Side Walmart, the Wyoming Food Bank will be on hand to distribute a semi load of food to our hungry neighbors in Central Wyoming. The food is free to anyone who needs it, and participants need only sign the registration sheet so Wyoming Food Bank has a count and way of contacting participants if need be.
Mobile Pantries are ways for the food bank to infuse a large amount of food into the community in a short amount of time. While there are hunger relief organizations local to Casper, the need for food is never met 100%. Many neighbors simply go without because their resources for food don't meet their needs. In fact, according to a recent study released by Feeding America, there are 17.6% of all children in Natrona County suffering from food insecurity. Wyoming Food Bank serves the entire state of Wyoming from a single warehouse in Mills, Wyoming. Over the past 12 months Wyoming Food Bank has worked with partners in all 23 counties of Wyoming to distribute 5.1 million pounds of food at an average cost of 3.5 cents a pound or less to our partners. Our partners work with Wyoming Food Bank to fight hunger by distributing the food directly to the folks who need it most through food pantries, soup kitchens, after school programs, senior centers, meals on wheels, and back pack programs. $1 donated to Wyoming Food Bank can purchase enough food for 4 meals and $10 can feed a family of 4 for an entire week.
If you are in need, or you know someone who is in need, please join us this Friday, August 31 from 4-6 pm at the East Side Walmart in Casper. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to everyone for free. No proof of income is required. Simply sign the registration log to insure that if something distributed were recalled, Wyoming Food Bank can contact you to communicate that information.
